About Us

Our journey began in February of 2021. What started with an "I can do that" has morphed into an all-consuming obsession.

We started the "wood shop" with hand carving kitchen utensils and cutting boards and have since moved on to turning pens and other gifts in January of 2024. While our focus has changed, our philosophy has not.

From hand selecting each piece of material from either locally sourced wood or trusted US sources to carefully designing and finishing these pieces of art, we take pride in what we are offering to you. While one piece might take an hour from start to finish, another might take five (5) hours or longer. And we're happy to say we have added Acrylics, Hybrids and Fordite to our continuously growing line. We are also pleased to present a line of beautifully handcrafted Fordite necklaces for a unique stylish look under Layer & Flow Jewelry Design.

Born from factory floors, paint booths, and ocean-swept workshops, Layer & Flow Jewelry Design transforms industrial history into wearable art. Each piece is handcrafted by Laura using authentic Fordite and Surfite - materials formed over time through layers of paint, pressure, motion, and craftsmanship.

Once part of legendary machines and working environments - Jeep, Kenworth, Maritime Navy and more - these layered materials carry stories of movement, resilience, and innovation. Through careful cutting, shaping and polishing, those stories are preserved, not erased, revealing vibrant patterns that can never be repeated.

No two pieces are ever the same, because no two histories are the same. Every curve, color, and striation reflects time, labor and legacy - reimagined as something to be worn, shared, and cherished. Built in Layers. Worn with Pride.

We do not have a production line nor an employee base - it's just the two of us - my husband Ted and myself, with the occasional help from one of our crazy cats, hence our shop name, The Crazy Cat Wood Shop. We both hold full time jobs in addition to our newly acquired hobby. We participate in local events that are in both Western and Central Massachusetts, as well as Connecticut, and we are pleased to announce that we just started selling our pens and gifts in our online store!

We hope you enjoy our pieces of art as much as we do!
